About US

Grey Stone Church has been on Hillsborough Road in Durham since 1936. In nearly a century, this building has held funerals and communions, baptisms and wedding receptions, Sunday school classes and late-night prayer meetings. Generations of Durham families have called this place home.

We take that history seriously. And we believe the best is still ahead.

Grey Stone is a multigenerational church, which means on any given Sunday, you will find people in their 80s who have been attending for decades sitting on the same row as college students who found us last month. We think that is exactly how it should be. Older faith and newer faith belong in the same room. They need each other.

We are committed to verse-by-verse teaching through Scripture, to genuine worship, and to being a real presence in the neighborhoods around us. We believe the Bible has something honest to say about everything people face, and that Durham is worth showing up for.

If you are new to faith, returning after a while, or just quietly curious, you are welcome here.

We’d love for you to join us. Sundays 8:45 + 11:15"

sundays

We would love for your family to join us for Sunday Worship at Grey Stone Church. GSKU is located in the Legacy Center (the newest building on campus).

On the 1st floor you will find our Check-In Area, Nursery, and Toddler – 2 year old classrooms. 3 year old’s through 5th graders meet on the 2nd floor which is accessible by elevator if needed.  We have Kids Worship for children at both worship service hours (8:45am & 11:15am) and Life Groups 4 Kids at the Life Group Hour (10:00am).

Kids Worship @ 8:45am & 11:15am

At this large group setting, your child will have the opportunity to participate in music, games, crafts, and hear biblical truths at an age appropriate level! We have separate Kids Worships for Elementary and Preschoolers.

Life Groups 4 Kids @ 10:00am

At this hour, kids break out into smaller groups according to their age. During LG4K's, kids have snack, bible lessons, and an interactive activity focused on the lesson.

Wednesdays @ GSKU (Sept-May)

Welcoming all 18months-5th graders to join us for a fun midweek evening.  Check in at the Legacy Center welcome desk at 6:00pm and be escorted upstairs for dinner, music, games, and biblical truths. The night ends at 7:30pm, but the conversations in the car can last the whole way home.

FUN FAM Wednesdays (June-August)

As we move into summer, we want to invite you and your kids to join us for many different FAMily events over the summer months. Evenings can vary from visiting Eno River Farm for ice-cream to jumping around at SkyZone. Our hope is that this would be a time to connect with family, friends, and make great memories.

Our Beliefs

Our core beliefs shape everything we do at Grey Stone. How we preach, how we serve, how we operate, and how we relate to one another.

god

This is some text inside of a div block.

We believe that God is the Creator of everything and that he exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

jesus christ

This is some text inside of a div block.

We believe in the full deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on a cross as the substitutionary atonement for sin, rose bodily from the dead, ascended to heaven and one day will physically return to earth in power and glory.

Humanity

This is some text inside of a div block.

We believe God created human beings, male and female, in his own image. Men and women are sinful at birth but enjoy equal access to God by faith in Jesus Christ. Human beings exist to bring glory to God. Men and women are called to significant engagement in family, church, and civic life.

scripture

This is some text inside of a div block.

We believe the Bible is God’s Word, a true and fully accurate account of God’s revealed will for us. It’s purpose is for teaching, encouraging and correcting

salvation

This is some text inside of a div block.

Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin, was physically resurrected, and now offers a restored relationship with God as a free gift to all who believe in him.

church

This is some text inside of a div block.

We believe the church is the body of Christ on earth. The church is distinguished by her gospel message, her ordinances, her great mission, and, above all, by her love for God, for one another, and for the world.

gospel

This is some text inside of a div block.

The gospel is the good news that while we were sinners, God sent his son Jesus to live, die, and be raised in our place.  It is the good news that God accomplished our salvation in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Baptism and Lord’s Supper

This is some text inside of a div block.

We believe that baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordained by Jesus himself. The former is a public confession of repentance and faith in Christ, and the latter is a symbolic remembrance of the atoning death of Jesus.

Core Values

Our core values are the commitments that guide Grey Stone in how we spend our time, our energy, and our resources. They describe who we are trying to be: week after week, in Durham and beyond, now and into the future.

1

The Bible changes everything.

We believe Scripture is alive and relevant. We are committed to teaching the Bible in a way that connects to real life. Because practical truth changes how people actually live.

2

People matter to God, so they matter to us.

We believe faith is meant to be shared, not through pressure, but through genuine relationship. We are a church that takes seriously the call to live the gospel in the places we work, live, and spend our time.

3

The church is the people, not a building.

Following Jesus is not a solo pursuit. We are committed to building a community where people are growing in their faith alongside others, through Life Groups, teaching, and the rhythms of shared life.

4

We are sent, not just gathered.

We believe the church has a responsibility to the whole world. Grey Stone is committed to supporting missionaries, caring for the vulnerable, and mobilizing our people to serve both in Durham and far beyond it.

5

We show up for the vulnerable.

We are a church with a neighborhood. Caring for the poor, the sick, and the overlooked is not a side ministry at Grey Stone. It is central to who we are.

6

Everyone has a part to play.

We gather on Sundays to worship, learn, and pray together. Then we go. We believe every person brings gifts that the church needs, and that the Christian life happens both inside the building and out in the world.

7

Rooted in truth. Relevant to real life.

We are committed to verse-by-verse teaching through Scripture and to being a real presence in the neighborhoods around us. We believe the Bible has something honest to say about every real thing people face.

8

Families are worth fighting for.

We are committed to the family as a core unit of faith. Grey Stone exists not just to serve individuals but to strengthen marriages, support parents, and help children grow up with a faith worth keeping.

9

Grace is how we treat each other.

We are motivated by love and committed to grace. That means honest relationships, patient responses, and a culture where people are free to be works in progress.

10

Making disciples is the whole point.

The mission of Grey Stone is to make disciples locally and globally, for the glory of God. Everything else we do flows from that.
